A soldier’s helmet and poppy flowers: this is how the National Bank of Ukraine marked the 70th anniversary of victory over Nazism in Europe, releasing the commemorative hryvnia «70 rokiv Peremohy» into circulation on 7 May 2015. Collectors know the coin simply as «Poppies».
The reverse is a composition of remembrance: helmet and poppies at the centre, the years «1945» and «2015» on either side, and small triangular flames that evoke memorial candles, with «70 ROKIV PEREMOHY» («70 years of Victory») above. The obverse, with the small State Coat of Arms, the value and the year, is framed by an Old Rus ornament.
The coin was created by Volodymyr Demianenko, Volodymyr Taran, Oleksandr Kharuk and Serhii Kharuk. With a mintage of 7 million it is a true circulating coin that must by law be accepted at face value in all payments, just like an ordinary hryvnia.
In a collection of circulating commemorative hryvnias it fills the 2015 slot and the Second World War theme. Uncirculated condition: the coin has never circulated, the relief of the helmet and petals is free of wear and the mint lustre is intact.
At VPcoins we select coins for collectors of every level, from first steps in numismatics to filling the hardest gaps.
